SI SCHOOLS MTB CHAMPIONSHIPS

he 2025 South Island School MTB Championships will be held in Methven from 26-29 March 2025 (with a back up day on the 30th) hosted by Bike Methven. This event will include Cross Country, Cross Country Relay, Downhill and Enduro events.

Age as at 31 December 2025

Individual races:

U20, U17, U16, U15, U14, U13 boys and girls.

At a minimum competitors must be enrolled in Year 7.

Team Races:

Senior (U20) Boys and Girls
Junior (U16 – Year 7 & 8 can ride in a Junior team) Boys and Girls

Mixed teams must ride in the boys category

Entry Fees-

Downhill (DH) = $75

Enduro (END) = $65

Cross Country (XCO) = $55

Cross Country Relay = $50 per team

*Includes race day lift pass

In determining which riders/schools will be accepted into the event (where entries exceed the maximum limit), CNZS may take into account any of the following criteria:

The total number of riders entered into the limited event by age or gender category
The total number of riders entered into the limited event by a single school
Entries received by the advertised due date & Payments made by the advertised due date
Prior history of the school in participation at the particular event
Prior history of the school in support of the particular event (providing volunteers etc.)
Past performance of riders at the particular event and at other CNZS or CNZ events
Eligibility for medals

Refund Policy

Refunds requested after the entry closing date will only be processed on the presentation of a medical certificate. All refunds will incur a $25 administration fee.

Please note that school registration close off is before cycling nz date due to our administration purposes.

Cycling NZ – Volunteer ProgrammeSchools are asked to provide one volunteer for every four riders, please register if you are able to help when you register your child. All volunteers should be over the age of 18, be confident in their role and wear fully enclosed footwear. All equipment required for the role will be given out on the day, such as high-vis vests. Bike Hire
Limited number of bikes available for hire during the event. Please contact Cycling Southland for cost and to arrange office@cyclingsouth.org.nz

Individual events will be run in an ‘Omnium style’ Riders will be awarded Omnium points for placings in each event. Riders must start all three events to be eligible for titles. Podium placings from individual events will receive certificates. Medals will be awarded to the top 3 overall in each age group.

Rules
This event is run in accordance with Cycling New Zealand Schools Rules.

Track Accreditation

All riders are required to be accredited to ride on the SIT Zero Fees Velodrome. Please contact Cycling Southland for the cost and to arrange office@cyclingsouth.org.nz

Health and Safety

Everyone has a responsibly towards Health and Safety at an event.

The safety of the riders, officials, volunteer and spectators are included in the event planning. If you have any questions or concerns regarding Health and Safety please report to the Event Manager.

Otago/Southland Secondary Schools Road Cycling Championships

There is no limit on numbers competing and events will be held in age groups (U19, U17, U15 and U13 for registered and non-registered riders).

NB: If a rider turns 15 in 2024 they will compete in the U17s

Boys and Girls grades will be separate with points allocated for finishing positions.

The Team’s trophy will be awarded to the Southland school with the most points.

Non-attendance at briefing may result in disqualification.

Note: Riders must compete in a minimum of two events to be eligible for medals.

The Events

Road Race, Individual Time Trial and Team Time Trial (4 in a team for team time trial)

The different age groups, both boys and girls, will ride appropriate distances, with 30km being the maximum distance ridden.

❖ No gear restrictions for any age group as per updated CNZ regulations
❖ Spoked wheels only – maximum rim depth 55mm, minimum spoke count 16 spokes
❖ Standard drop bars only – no clip on or integrated aerobars

❖ Roll out 6.61m for U13’s and U15’s

A TEAM MANAGER WITH SOME KNOWLEDGE ON ROAD CYCLING WILL BE NEEDED TO HELP ON THE DAY

VOLUNTEER PROGRAMME: Schools are asked to provide one volunteer for every four riders, please register your volunteers before entries close.
