Natasha Santos-O’Connell, 17, attended a New Zealand Māori under-18 rugby camp. The camp, for under-18 players, was held in Wellington after a trial back in April. She was was one of two Southland players who attended. “The camp was really good. I learnt a lot of new skills there and made a lot of new connections throughout the camp. The coaches and mentors were incredible and they had a lot of knowledge to give to us players.”
She also learnt more about her Māori culture. “Just to connect with my Māori culture and do my ancestors proud as well by playing rugby – it’s a great opportunity for us Māori girls to have our own camp.”
