Term one was all about Kayaking. Our journey began at the pool where students began getting used to the initially daunting task of flipping upside down underwater. Once conquering those fears, we headed out to the Oreti River, focussing on making moves while on moving water. The last training session before camp was an awesome paddle from Branxholme to Wallacetown. Everyone challenged themselves and definitely got wet. Our final sign off for Kayaking for the year was an awesome adventure, based at Mavora Lakes. This is where students get to put into practise all the skills they have acquired on some smaller rapids and tick off all the key competencies for their assessment. It wasn’t all about kayaking though, other highlights included catching a massive eel, morning swims, manus off the bank and enjoying spinning yarns around the campfire.
