The annual interschool with Wakatipu High School was held in Queenstown recently. It was a very cold and frosty but clear day so perfect conditions for all of the varied sports. It is not often our rugby teams land on thick frost when they are tackled! The day started with a warm welcome to the school and then a very full day of competition began.
All of our teams played competitively, demonstrating positive sportsmanship and determination. All of the students involved represented the school with pride. There were some very close games, and given how close some results were, the interschool could have gone either way. Wakatipu won overall 8 games to 5.
We now look forward to hosting Taieri College next term.
Rugby had 3 teams competing. Girls A team, Boys U15s and 1st XV all played throughout the day. The U15s kicked off in the morning, the field was icy and hard but both teams were keen to put a full effort early in the match, JHC winning 48-24. The girls came in together to make a team made up of seniors and juniors, they dominated the fixture running in 79 points, they won 79-17. The 1st XV were up for the challenge of a strong Wakatipu squad. Tic for tac throughout the majority of the match but Wakatipu home ground advantage pulled them through in the end, JHC going down 14-33.
