English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) is available for Year 7 & 8 students who require it.
Students whose first language is not English are able to access language support. An initial assessment identifies the needs of the students and provision is made for learning success. Students will join an ESOL class where their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills will be developed. The goal is for students to acquire the language skills needed to participate and succeed in the mainstream.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
At the discretion of the Teacher in Charge of ESOL. On occasion Year 12 students are considered for this course if they have not gained the Level 1 Literacy and Numeracy credits. This course is appropriate for International Students..
QUALIFICATION(S):
NCEA Level 1 Literacy credits (5 Reading and 5 Writing) and Numeracy (10 credits).
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is designed for students for whom English is a second language and require literacy and numeracy for Level 1. There is an emphasis on writing and reading, and understanding word Maths questions.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The course is designed to further develop the listening, speaking, reading and writing skills of English Language Learners. Emphasis is given to the academic language used in senior subjects. Students are also supported in their preparation for tertiary study.
